We eat a lot of onions, so it seems like the thing to do to grow them. It's possible to start them from seeds, sets (small bulbs), or plants; we've tried sets and seeds so far with uneven success.
For seeds, start indoors early. Transplant outside as soon as soil can be worked, in well-fertilized soil, about 3 inches apart in rows 1 foot apart. Keep weeded, being careful while cultivating not to disturb the shallow roots. Harvest when the tops turn brown and fall over.
