About this Site

We've been gardening for at least five years here at our current location. In 2009 I took notes on paper and kept up with good record-keeping until the end of May. In 2010 I took notes on the computer and kept up until the beginning of May. 2011 saw the openeing of this site and the record stretches all the way until the end of July. Before 2009 is only unreliable memory and a few packets of seeds we didn't use up.

This site is mainly for our own use, to help us keep track of what's going on in the garden and to serve as a repository of tips for the various plants. Of course, we hope it may provide some entertainment to you as well; that's an added bonus!

Farm? Really?

Yeah, we know it's kind of silly to call what we do "farming". But since we are kind of silly, that's what we're going with. Now that we have a fence and chickens we're at least some way towards looking the part.

Aside from personal experience, the "tips" presented here are drawn from a number of written sources, including:

  • The New Victory Garden by Bob Thomson (WGBH Educational Foundation, 1987).
  • The Backyard Homestead by Carleen Madigan, ed (Storey Publishing, 2009).
  • Sunset Northeastern Garden Book by Anne Halpin, ed. (Sunset Books, 2001).
